News from AAFC’s Market Access Secretariat

We wish to inform you of an announcement by the Prime Minister on November 18 2022, as part of his remarks at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

As part of the upcoming release of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, the Prime Minister announced a range of measures to expand trade, investment, and supply chain resilience in the Indo-Pacific to benefit people in the region and Canada. In particular, he announced $31.8 million over five years to establish Canada’s first agriculture office in the region to increase and diversify agriculture and agri-food exports, strengthening trade on both sides of the Pacific.

The Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office will support the Government of Canada’s efforts to increase and diversify agriculture and agri-food exports to the Indo-Pacific and position Canada as a preferred agriculture and agri-food supplier to the region. By engaging with stakeholders, regulators, and policy decision-makers, it will deepen partnerships with Indo-Pacific economies that value sustained, meaningful relationships, collaboration and the sharing of expertise.
